Luce was inspired by the Catholic church's desire "to live even within the pop culture so beloved by our youth."

She is representing the Vatican City at Lucca comics & games in 2024, which will be the first time that the Vatican officially participates in a comic convention. Luce will also represent the Vatican City at expo 2025 in Japan.

Following Luce's unveiling, she quickly spawned internet memes. Users on websites such as Twitter made jokes about the Catholic church embracing anime visuals.
